Hiya, and hello! It’s been a while. I feel like I don’t need to explain the absence, ahem, the Holidays, and as I may have mentioned previously, I moved out of state to Dallas, TX at the beginning of December and am working tirelessly, outside of my full-time job and blogging, on completely revamping every room and space in my new apartment. That’s been fun and exciting, so be ready to see bits and pieces of that, but one too many trips to Home Goods and Target. Did I just say that? Who am I??
To keep things light and easy to read since we are probably all in “clean slate/power cleaning/getting back into the groove/minimizing” mode I thought I would share some of my favorite purchases in 2017! Funny enough, 4 of them are what I am wearing in today’s blog post!
1.) First up is this classic black double-breasted coat. It’s the perfect weight for mild winters, which we have in the southern states, except for lately, with this arctic blast of air we are experiencing. Brrr, go away! I picked it up at Loft during a crazy good sale in November and it’s now sold out, so I have linked similar ones below.
2.) Next are the ankle raw hem high waisted skinny jeans I have on. Does that sound like a crazy Starbucks order, but in the form of an article of clothing instead? Yeah, what a mouthful. I bought these during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale in July this past summer and have more than gotten my money’s worth, 10 fold. They are basically my go-to jeans in all of my closet, the ones I reach for first, always, and the ones that fit the best right now. Funny how that works. I sized down in them, to a 26, and they are STILL on sale, for about a month now, the same price I paid for them. Grab a pair or two for yourself–you won’t regret it! They go perfectly with flat sandals and sneaks too in the spring and summer.
3.) This Tory Burch Thea bag is something I saw a friend wear to work, and it was unlike any TB bags I had previously purchased at the time, which were all in the Robinson collection. I knew I needed a go-to non-cross body black bag, and I liked the idea of being able to throw this one on my shoulder and go. So easy! I am not one for flashy emblems and logos either, so the subtle, monochromatic style of this bag is perfect. And how fun are the tassels and gold chain detail? Classy and functional, but with a touch of some glam to jazz it up for everyday wear.
4.) I went to Boston in November for my birthday trip, shared in this post and this post, and on our last day, before rushing back to the hotel to pack up and head to the airport, I drug my boyfriend around with me on Boylston Street to help me find something unique from a unique store to take home with me. I have done this in my travels for as long as I can remember. It’s sort of a thing now for me, to buy an article of clothing, or bag, pair of shoes, something special., not a touristy coffee mug or magnet either–although not knocking those things–I’m looking at you Cheers gift shop of Boston, where I am guilty of buying said coffee mug and magnet. I found this adorable pair of blue/gray bobble pom sandals for a steal! I immediately wore them when I got home and have styled them a few different ways until the above-mentioned frigid temps arrived. I can’t wait to pair them with skirt and short sleeves in the Spring! They are also a great dupe for the Sam Edelman identical Embellished sandals, except that I paid half!
5.) Another great purchase that I immediately threw on in July, in the opposite temps of what North Texas is giving us now, is this tan color block long super soft cardigan that I also picked up during Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Original blog post is here. I wore it then with a thin white bodysuit and the same jeans I mentioned above, and I wore it all Fall with black denim as well. It is now sold out, but there are similar ones linked below!
6.) Last is this plaid boyfriend blazer, which I shared in this blog post! I actually did a collaboration shoot with one of my good blogger friends, in Houston, TX, and we chose our own blazers and styled them completely to our personal liking without telling one another, and I think our looks completely complemented each other! What do you think? I love how classic and timeless it is, and that the length is conservative and comfortable. Totally wear it to the office with a pair of black trousers, and then switch it up for the weekend over a black cutoff skirt!
