How to start transitioning your summer wardrobe into your fall wardrobe: Sound crazy? It’s not as complicated as you think! If you are anything like me, when I’m in a season I go all in. I’m talking in the summer time you will usually find me in white jeans, white skirts (see above!), a white linen dress, you get the picture. Today I want to share a few little tricks for carrying items you’re wearing now into the fall when the temps start to cool down.
1.) Swap Out Bright Colors for Neutrals and Fall Tones
This outfit is the perfect example of mix and matching seasons, and ultimately getting more wear out of your clothes. If you live in an area like me (near the gulf of Mexico) and don’t get 4 full seasons, it’s hard to grab heavy sweaters come September 1st. Instead, think of grabbing fall colored clothing instead, and slowly start incorporating those hues into your wardrobe now. This is your olive green, mustard, blush, (big for this upcoming fall season) gray, camel, etc. This olive green bodysuit is light enough in fabric to wear during the summer, and the short sleeves help, too! I paired it with this white skirt, since, read above, but will switch that out as soon as summer is over.
2.) Change Up Your Bottoms
Pairing this olive green bodysuit with a white skirt here works well for the summertime, but something you can do to bring this bodysuit into the fall and winter is to simply swap your white skirts and jeans for dark denim, black denim, or a black skirt. You better believe I will be doing this as soon as it’s not a sweltering 99 degrees out. So hard to wear jeans during the day right now! With that being said I can’t wait to throw on a light jacket over this bodysuit and pair it up with dark jeans!
3.) Switch Your Sandals and Heels for Boots and Booties
Nothing makes an easier transition like taking a tan pair of block heel sandals and swapping them out for a tan pair of booties! Am I right? For this look I could easily make it fall appropriate by switching out my white skirt for a dark pair of skinny jeans, and instead of my block sandals, I’d put on my tan booties! The key to this is to keep the same colored shoes, just make sure it’s closed too, but peep toe booties work great too!
4.) Add a Cardigan
I’m a firm believer of throwing a long, cozy cardigan over anything. Voila! Instant summer to fall outfit, without having to go out and replace your current wardrobe. Since olive green is already a neutral nearly any solid color cardigan will work with this. Think white, tan, beige, even black. If you’ve got a neutral printed one that would even turn things up a notch!
In theory, it’s all about making small adjustments like the things I mentioned above. No need to over-think this or feel like you’ve got to throw everything away in your closet or replace last year’s sweater collection. You don’t! Just try keeping these tips in mind and you can re-create outfits with so many pieces that you already have in your closet!
I want to know how you jazz things up in your own closet, making your summer items work into fall! Let me know in the comments below what you think, and tag me in any photos you post to Instagram by using the hashtag #brandistipsforfall.
As always, I appreciate you taking time to stop in and read my blog. xoxo, brandi
